You almost made 5star (and I still think 4 star is a great rating) but in comparison to other river cruises such as Viking or Scenic you’re not quite at that level. However I also need to consider price and I would say that in comparison you do provide great value per dollar..
Great experience
Although a river sailing on American Cruise Lines costs as much as a luxury line at sea, you won't see the same designer duds onboard. We saw very few brand names on our cruise, and little bling. Daytime wear is comfortable for tours, with collared shirts and shorts for men, and capris and T-shirts for women. Nighttime is equally casual, with most women wearing a nice blouse and slacks or a dress, and men wearing collared shirts and slacks.

Discover the array of entertainment options provided by American Cruise Lines that will keep you engaged and entertained throughout your journey. This was my second cruise with American Cruise Lines. My sister and I had a wonderful trip full of fun and fellowship. I would recommend it to anyone, especially people that do not want to go out of the country, but like to cruise. It is so refreshing to have a company that is American and the ships are built in America. We really enjoy being onboard these cruises.

Great Vacation Experience
The employees were all very kind and helpful, they went out of their way to make everything enjoyable.... Tips are entirely at your personal discretion and generally average about $125 per person on a seven-night cruise. Casual sportswear is suggested during the day. Attire should include clothing for layering when the weather turns cool.
Fares also include gratuities, a pre-night hotel stay and transfers. The staff was well organized and very friendly. We enjoyed our cruise time on the boat and also the times off the boat. The Columbia and Snake river cruise was like taking a week long history class. We followed the Lewis & Clark rout via river and were treated very well by the friendly crew. The meals were scrumptious and even offered half portions when less hungry.
The Trustpilot Experience
Sailing only along U.S. rivers and coastlines, American is the largest and most celebrated cruise line in the country. We are regularly recognized throughout the industry for our new riverboats and small ships, exclusive U.S. itineraries, enrichment programs, and personalized service. American Cruise Lines says that the average age for all of its passengers is low 60s. But that's not what we observed on our Lower Mississippi River cruise.
Cruises
Excursions were a little rushed sometimes but very organized. Please read our Trustpilot reviews and we hope you get excited to sail with us soon. If I had to put a star on the whole experience, I would give it 4-stars.
We just love the small boats and…
The people on the phone and those on the ship are friendly, professional and knowledge. We were so impressed that we booked a cruise for next year. In 2024 it will offer the seven-night Cape Codder itinerary, round-trip from Boston. There is a main dining room and cafe and, notably for a small ship, the option for room service. The hub of the vessel is the panoramic forward lounge on Deck 2, and there is also a smaller lounge next to the cafe on Deck 3.
Great Food, Excellent staff, Everything very clean.
On that sailing, the average age was easily 75, with many passengers older than that. Because the ship has an elevator and the staff makes accommodations for people with mobility issues, it's an excellent choice for those who feel rigorous travel is beyond them. It's a social ship during the day -- passengers wear nametags at all times and we saw many friend groups forming. Almost all of American Cruise Lines' passengers come from the United States. That's partly because the company has an all-American crew, with college kids making up the steward and deckhand staff. The line also doesn't nickel-and-dime with additional charges -- there's no casino, specialty restaurants or bar onboard, and the line includes a shore excursion in every port.
Many other companies building small European-style river cruise ships are stuffing entry-level guests into staterooms that are 135 sq/ft. But here, you are certain to enjoy a stateroom that is over twice that size. After your first cruise you will receive an invitation to join the Eagle Society in the mail. If you are already a past passenger and would like to join, you can do so on board your next cruise or by calling a cruise specialist and requesting an invitation. Discover the essence of American Cruise Lines and what sets them apart as Chris and Tracy share their insights on the cruise line’s unique offerings and its history.
One passenger commented how she worked miracles to get a prescription aboard the ship, and we found in her a sincere desire to make us feel at home and well taken care of. And again, this just wasn’t me. We heard the same from many of our co-passengers. Suggested companies are based on people’s browsing tendencies. This was the crew's first trip of the season and they did great. Excellent service, superb food, comfortable quarters and interesting excursions.
Two cabins designed specifically for solo travelers are available, while three different categories of suites are available for those seeking more personal space. Everyone was so friendly, cheerful, helpful. Itinery was interesting, and land excursions were good. Can't wait to sail with American Cruise lines again. Smaller ships are SO much better than huge crowded ones.
Since our interest in and knowledge of the Civil War is pretty intense, we would have liked more directly civil war battle talks and excursions, or better information on how to build our own excursions on the fly. The guides at the two Civil War battlefields we visited were beyond excellent. The room was great, quiet, private, with our own lttle balcony. You only pack or unpack at the very beginning of the week or at the very end. Staff on our floor were very accommodating, as was pretty much all crew, guides and bus drivers.Food was prepared well, portions reasonable and options for a half-order or changes to the menu on the fly. So nice not to worry about preparing the next meal, like at home!
We were so impressed with the personal service, beginning with the phone call from our driver who picked us up from the... First cruise and had a great time with my sibling's October 2022. Well planned excursions and Bob the bus driver made the experience the best. He retired the end of October and will definitely be missed.
